Kerry Eyman, Massage Therapist, Rolfing Student

Kerry Eyman
I began my path of healing touch at the age of 3 by working on my Mother’s tired feet. After 19 years of feeling compelled to ease the pain of others I decided to make a legitimate commitment by entering a massage program. I spent 2 years of my practice working with a Chiropractor, which afforded me many learning opportunities in a clinical setting. It was there that I developed a more structural understanding of the body and learned the wonders of Rolfing*. A couple of patients I worked with weekly for months had begun what is known as a "10 series". The change was so immediate and remarkable that I felt (and they felt as well) that I was working with a new body. As a prerequisite I received the 10 series and have experienced first hand the lasting benefits of structural realignment and the support of gravity. I have since completed 2 out of the 3 units towards Rolfing Certification in Boulder, Colorado and plan on finishing in July of 2008 and beginning my Rolfing Practice. I implement Rolfing principles by creating space around the joints and tissues, allowing for more options in movement. I work with the connective tissue that surrounds the muscles, organs and bones to encourage resiliency in the body. Another aspect of Rolfing that I am able to practice is "integration", which works with your nervous system’s ability to process the bodywork. More recently I have taken John F. Barnes Myofascial Release 1 to enhance my skill level until I can complete my Rolfing training.
*Rolfing is a system of connective tissue manipulation based on the theory that re-balancing and realigning the body with the earth's gravitational force results in more energy, increased breathing capacity, and alleviation of chronic pain. For More information visit www.rolf.org

Kitrina Hunter- owner and massage therapist

Kitrina Hunter, L.M.T./Owner
Kitrina received certification for therapeutic massage in 1992 from the National Institute for Muscle Therapy in St. Louis, Missouri. She developed a large, very loyal clientele within the first few years of practice. Kitrina became known for her aggressive no nonsense deep tissue therapy. During these early years she realized the need in Southern Illinois for a tranquil office dedicated to massage therapy. Other like-minded therapist expressed interest in practicing in an office such as this so Kitrina established In Sync Mind Body Therapy Center in 1994.
In Sync began as a four treatment room facility with a large space for personal development classes. Kitrina’s vision grew as her clients expressed an interest in receiving affordable spa services in a relaxing environment like the offices for massage. She and her staff of four certified massage therapist received training in a variety of spa services. They created face, hand and feet treatments using organic botanical products. Body wraps and exfoliations also became very popular.
Kitrina realized early in her career the importance of at least 500 hours of training for massage therapists to be knowledgeable in treating or refrain from treating the conditions for which people came to them. She and other therapist successfully lobbied the city of Carbondale to create an ordinance of licensure until the State of Illinois require one.
In Sync continued to grow and in 2004 the family of therapist relocated to a larger facility located at 2031 S. Illinois Avenue. The staff of licensed practitioners doubled. In addition to massage therapy, In Sync offers Yoga classes, Acupuncture, Psych-K, and a full line of salon and spa services with a licensed cosmetologist.
Kitrina is very proud of In Sync’s wonderful, well-trained progressive staff. Our goal is to expand our knowledge through continuing our education in advanced and alternative therapies. We are dedicated to facilitating the health and well-being of our clients. We feel that by offering a wide range of services at reasonably prices we can helping many people in their quest for a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
Kitrina’s goal is to follow her dreams to fruition and to grow in health and happiness and practice compassion and random acts of kindness often.
